Better recommendations start with the business need.
There is no universally best business tool.
The right system depends on what a business needs to accomplish, the complexity it can reasonably support and the level of capability required to solve the problem effectively.
GYBU evaluates business tools with that context in mind. Rather than presenting endless software lists or assuming that more features automatically mean a better product, we aim to narrow the available options into practical recommendations for different levels of business need.
We Start With the System
Before considering individual products, GYBU starts with the job the Business System needs to perform.
Across our 15 Business Systems, we consider the underlying business problem first: what needs to work, why it matters and what capabilities an appropriate solution should provide.
This keeps the recommendation process centred on the business requirement rather than the product being promoted.
What We Consider
The exact criteria vary depending on the Business System and product being evaluated. Where relevant, GYBU considers factors including:
Does the product meaningfully perform the job the Business System requires?
What type of business, requirement or level of complexity is the product actually suited to?
How much complexity is involved in adopting, learning and operating the system?
Can repetitive work be reduced appropriately without introducing unnecessary complexity or compromising work that requires human judgement?
How effectively can the product work alongside other relevant business tools, systems and workflows?
Can the solution continue to serve the business as its requirements, volume or operational complexity increase?
Does the product provide appropriate insight into, and control over, the work or information it manages?
Is the capability provided reasonable in relation to its cost and the requirements it is intended to solve?
Not every criterion carries the same weight for every product. A Finance platform should not be evaluated in exactly the same way as an SEO tool, CRM or appointment-booking system.
Different Businesses Need Different Levels of Capability
Where GYBU presents Basic, Intermediate and Premium recommendations, these levels represent different levels of business need — not a ranking from worst to best.
Basic recommendations prioritise essential capability, simplicity and ease of implementation where greater complexity would provide little practical benefit.
Intermediate recommendations provide greater capability, coordination, automation or flexibility for businesses whose requirements have moved beyond the basics.
Premium recommendations are intended for more sophisticated requirements where greater control, integration, capability or scalability can justify additional cost and complexity.
Premium does not automatically mean better. The right option is the one that appropriately solves the business requirement.
We Consider the Trade-Offs
Every product has limitations.
GYBU aims to make relevant trade-offs visible alongside strengths. Depending on the product, these may include pricing, complexity, implementation requirements, learning curve, integrations, plan limitations, scalability or suitability for particular businesses.
A useful recommendation should help you understand whether a product fits, not simply give you reasons to buy it.
How We Research
GYBU may use a combination of publicly available product information, official documentation, pricing information, feature specifications, demonstrations or product access where available, provider materials and other relevant sources when evaluating a product.
The type and depth of information available can vary between products.
We aim to distinguish factual product information from GYBU's assessment of who a product may be suited to and why.
Information Changes
Business software changes quickly.
Features, integrations, pricing, plans, availability and provider terms can change after an evaluation is published or updated. Where appropriate, GYBU may indicate when time-sensitive information such as pricing was last checked.
Always confirm current features, pricing, availability and terms directly with the provider before purchasing or making a business decision.
Affiliate Relationships
Some products featured on GYBU may use affiliate links. If you make a qualifying purchase or take another qualifying action through one of these links, GYBU may receive compensation from the provider. Where applicable, this comes at no additional cost to you.
An affiliate relationship does not determine the level of business need a product is intended to address, and not every product discussed or recommended by GYBU will necessarily have an affiliate relationship.
